A 1925 oil painting on canvas of sailboats on the ocean by well-listed American artist Harry Shokler (1896-1978). This expressive work depicts three sailboats at rest on calm ocean waters along the coast. The piece is signed in red paint by the artist to the lower left corner and dated 1925. It is presented in a gold toned wood frame.

Harry Shokler (1896-1978) was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to Yiddish speaking Russian immigrant parents. He enrolled at the Cincinnati Art Academy and later at the School of Fine and Applied Art in NYC. While best known as a painter influenced by French landscape painter Jerome Blum, he also was a printmaker of etchings and engravings created under the auspices of the W.P.A. Art Project.

Condition

- fair; crazing throughout the piece; upper panel of the painting was repaired.
