An original oil painting on board by American artist Carol J. Mathews (1956-2015). The abstract landscape features an ocean view framed by two large trees to either side. It is rendered in broad undulating and swirling lines in a palette of bright greens and soft pinks and purples. The work is unsigned. A stamp from the artist’s estate and a printed artist bio are present to the verso. The painting is presented without framing.

Mathews, known for her colorful and expressive paintings and drawings, describes her work as follows: ‘having painted for over 25 years, it is difficult to describe my art but whimsical, abstract, and fantasy come to mind.’ After years of suffering from mental illness, Carol’s art became a crucial conduit for her internal turmoil. Condition

- drill holes through board to each corner. Wear to board edges and damage to corners. Accretion throughout painting surface. Scattered small areas of paint loss.
