Antique Mechanical Tin Beetle from Japan

Item Details

An antique mechanical tin beetle from Japan. This Japanese tin plate mechanical toy features lithographic detailing to its exterior and rests on a green base with four attached legs painted black. Also attached to the underside is a knob to operate the clockwork mechanisms which control the leg and wing movement. The beetle is marked at its rear ‘Japan’ and is stylized after Lehmann’s ‘Crawling Beetle’ toy of Germany.

Condition

- not functional; rust and loss of paint; appears to be missing hardware on wings; surface markings.
