Guna Mola Textile Panels

A pair of mola cloth panels. Mola are shirt panels in the traditional dress of the Guna people in Panama and Columbia. These panels are made using hand-stitching, reverse appliqué, and embroidery of brightly colored fabric in striped patterns. These pieces feature a non-objective pattern of lines in a circular motif with arrow-head shaped protrusions in the corners and a more detailed composition of two birds facing each other with fish for heads. They have unfinished edges, are unsigned, and presented unframed.
Condition
- some accretion to surfaces; unfinished edges fraying; some wrinkles from storage.
