An oil painting on board of flying mallards by listed American Western artist Lanny Grant (b. 1953). This work features a pair of mallards in mid-flight, silhouetted against a slightly cloudy blue sky. The work is signed to the lower left. It is presented in a wood frame with a painted cherry finish and a canvas liner.
Colorado native Lanny Grant is known for his majestic renderings of American Western landscapes. Although he is mostly self-taught as an artist, he studied art and art history at Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado. Grant is a prominent member of Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters, and his work has been collected by both private and corporate collections. In 1993, he was commissioned to paint Mount of the Holy Cross to commemorate Pope John Paul II’s visit to Colorado, which is currently part of the Vatican’s permanent art collection.
