A circa 1837 etching with aquatint after British engraver John Harris (1811 – 1865) titled Doncaster Races: Race for the Great St. Leger Stakes, 1836 – Approbation – Off in Good Style, created after an earlier work by British artist James Pollard (1792 – 1867). The piece, published by Ackermann and Co. of London, depicts a lively 19th-century horse-racing scene in side profile. The work is titled and attributed in plate to the lower margin. It is matted in cream and presented under glass in a wooden frame fitted with hanging twine to the verso.
Condition
- minor toning and discoloration to paper; slight edge wear and scuffing to frame.
