An original marker drawing on paper by contemporary American artist Carol J. Mathews (1956-2015). The abstract drawing features a complex composition filled with a variety of shapes and patterns, rendered in black lines and vibrant color. The work, from the estate of the artist, is unsigned. It is presented behind a white mat with a black fillet, under glass, in a simple black composite frame, and is ready to hang with a sawtooth bracket. A short printed artist bio is attached to the verso.
Mathews, known for her colorful and expressive paintings and drawings, describes her work as follows: ‘having painted for over 25 years, it is difficult to describe my art but whimsical, abstract, and fantasy come to mind.’ After years of suffering from mental illness, Carol’s art became a crucial conduit for her internal turmoil.
