A drapo Vodou flag from Haiti featuring Baron Samdi by Maxon Scylla. This banner represents Baron Samdi, one of the Vodou lords of the underworld and keeper of the cemetery, with a symbolic cross and grave topped with twin heads. Gold-tone, red, green and blue sequins are sewn on the image, filling the space with sparkling texture. The artist’s name is stitched in mauve beads to the lower edge. Drapo Vodou flags are generally produced by practicing Vodou priests and members of their congregation, and reflect the rich Catholic and Vodou (Voodoo) traditions of Haitian culture. This piece includes a tag with additional information to the verso, and hangs by loops on the upper edge.
