Haitian Drapo Vodou Flag "Bossou"

Item Details

Unsigned

A drapo Vodou flag from Haiti featuring Bossou, the three-horned bull. Representing fertility and protection, this banner depicts the bull with a protruding tongue and star in the middle of its face, surrounded by candles and a libation bottle. Gold-tone, red, white and black sequins are sewn on the image, filling the space with sparkling texture. The bull’s name is stitched in red to the upper right edge. Drapo Vodou flags are generally produced by practicing Vodou priests and members of their congregation, and reflect the rich Catholic and Vodou (Voodoo) traditions of Haitian culture. This piece includes a tag with additional information, and hangs by the upper edge.
