Haitian Drapo Vodou Flag "Ayizan"

Item Details

Unsigned

A drapo Vodou flag featuring Ayizan, a Haitian spirit or Iwa. Representing the Vodou temple and markets, this piece presents the Iwa’s abstract design, called a vévé, with ‘Aizan’ stitched along one edge of the symbol. Green, blue, white and black sequins are sewn on pink fabric to create the design. Drapo Vodou flags are generally produced by practicing Vodou priests and members of their congregation, and reflect the rich Catholic and Vodou (Voodoo) traditions of Haitian culture. This piece includes a tag with additional information to the verso, and hangs by the upper edge.
