Bill Schiffer Black Wax Sculpture of an Abstract Form

Item Details

A Modernist black wax sculpture by Bill Schiffer of an abstract form. The sculpture formed from a thick rough textured ribbon of black wax is curved to create a shape resembling a double U. It is signed and dated ‘Schiffer 2009’ in white to the lower right side of the piece.

Born in New York, Bill Schiffer rose to prominence as a painter and sculptor in the early 1980’s. Though he still works in many two dimensional and three dimensional art mediums, Schiffer is most well known for his unique handcrafted jewelry, which he started designing after a foray experimenting with wearable art in the fashion scene. Bill Schiffer’s art and jewelry has been shown in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, as well as major museums in Italy, Japan, Germany and the United States. His work has been featured in publications including Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, Women’s Wear Daily, Seventeen and Cosmopolitan.
