Two Bill Schiffer Sketchbooks

Item Details

Graphite on paper

Two sketchbooks by listed contemporary artist Bill Schiffer. This pair includes one large and one small spiral-bound notebook, each used as sketchbooks by Schiffer. Each sketchbook is filled with graphite, charcoal, and pastel sketches, and many are signed and dated to the 1960s. The sketchbooks are presented unframed.

Born in New York, Bill Schiffer rose to prominence as a painter and sculptor in the early 1980s. Though he still works in many two dimensional and three dimensional art mediums, Schiffer is most well known for his unique handcrafted jewelry, which he started designing after a foray experimenting with wearable art in the fashion scene. Bill Schiffer’s art and jewelry has been shown in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, as well as major museums in Italy, Japan, Germany and the United States. His work has been featured in publications including Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, Women’s Wear Daily, Seventeen and Cosmopolitan.
