A hand painted Tapa cloth. This piece depicts expressive repeating forms in black, brown, and off-white and is composed of relief print on hand-made fibrous bark paper. Tapa cloths are barkcloths made on the islands in the Pacific Ocean. This cloth is housed in a wooden frame under glass and features a tag to the bottom center reading ‘Tapa Cloth, Made and hand painted by natives of the New Hebrides Islands, South Pacific 1944.’

Condition

-Edge wear, nicks and scratches to frame.
