Antique Painted Child's Sleigh, Circa Late 19th to Early 20th Century

An antique painted child’s sleigh, circa late 19th to early 20th century. The wooden, red- and black-painted frame is embellished with yellow pinstripes. It features an open compartment with a serpentine, front rail and a padded, rear seat in later, plaid upholstery. The sleigh rises on bentwood, iron-lined runners joined by three arched, wooden stretchers with lateral, wire reinforcements.

Condition

- scattered wear to paint with small losses, mostly to runners; serpentine, front rail has been repaired with some resulting overpaint; some minor oxidation to metal components; seat upholstery is later; sleigh most likely had a rear push handle, which is now missing.
