A 19th century Jackfield Staffordshire cream and sugar set with waste bowl. The distinctive pottery has a fine basket weave pattern and is finished in a black glossy glaze. The set comprises a squat form creamer with a wide spout, covered sugar bowl, and a large waste bowl. This style of Jackfield Staffordshire was made as an affordable alternative for those who could not afford to purchase Wedgwood’s Basalt Tea Wares but desired to own fashionable black tea wares which Wedgwood designed to make women’s hands appear whiter when serving tea. Unmarked.
