Antique Bi-Color Staffordshire William Adams and Sons "Caldonia" Pitcher

An antique bi-color Staffordshire transferware pitcher by William Adams in the pattern Caladonia (Latin for ‘Scotland’). The pitcher is fluted at the circumference with a well sculpted spout, green scenic borders and a dramatic stag hunting scene in red illustrating a Highlander in a kilt pursuing the stag at one side and celebrating his victory on the opposite. The pitcher is ink stamped in red to the bottom with a cartouche reading ‘Caldonia’. William Adams and Sons pottery was established in Staffordshire, England in 1769.

Condition

- a few very minor rough spots to the glaze but no chips or cracks.
