Harry Shokler Original 1926 Oil Painting on Canvas and Serigraph on Paper
Item Details
A pair of fine art works by well-listed American artist Harry Shokler (1896-1978). The first work is an expressive oil painting on canvas depicting a coastal scene with a wood building on stilts surrounded by boats, nets, and sailing vessels all under wide blue skies with light clouds and sea bathers enjoying the day. The second work is a serigraph on paper of moored fishing vessels. All pieces are signed by the artist with the painting signed to the lower left corner in red and dated 1926, and the serigraph signed to the lower right margin in pencil. These pieces are presented in wood frames.
Harry Shokler (1896-1978) was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to Yiddish speaking Russian immigrant parents. He enrolled at the Cincinnati Art Academy and later at the School of Fine and Applied Art in NYC. While best known as a painter influenced by French landscape painter Jerome Blum, he also was a printmaker of etchings and engravings created under the auspices of the W.P.A. Art Project.
