Chinese Embroidery of Magu and Shou

Item Details

A Chinese style embroidery of the goddess Magu and god Shou Lao. This textile work depicts the two religious figures at the top of a wooded area surrounded by herons with a small, spotted deer. Both figures are wrapped in flowing garments, while Magu sports a tea kettle surrounded by peaches, possibly paying homage to her attendance at the peach banquet held by the Queen Mother of the West. Meanwhile, Shou looks on happily while clutching at his staff and a large peach. The work is presented under protective glazing beneath a brocade mat, which is placed in a stained wooden frame with an ornate bracket for hanging and a typed informational tag regarding Magu to the verso.
