An acrylic painting on canvas by American artist Morris Shokler (1910 – 2009). This work depicts a sunny summer’s day celebrated with an outdoor picnic and gathering of people. The piece is signed by the artist to the lower left corner and dated 1942. It is presented behind a white mat behind glass in a wood frame.
Harry Shokler (1896-1978) was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to Yiddish speaking Russian immigrant parents. He enrolled at the Cincinnati Art Academy and later at the School of Fine and Applied Art in NYC. While best known as a painter influenced by French landscape painter Jerome Blum, he also was a printmaker of etchings and engravings created under the auspices of the W.P.A. Art Project.
