A wooden sculpture by listed folk and Outsider artist Henry York (1931-1995). This sculpture is composed of carved wood and metal joints and depicts a woman, possibly pregnant, riding a unicorn with a long spiraled horn. The sculpture features a glossy finish and no signatures are visible.
Henry York was a retired farmer, born in southern Kentucky in 1913. York was an Outsider artist with no formal artistic training. He is known for his hand carved and painted sculptures, typically made of found cedar wood, featuring erotic articulated male figures. Other subjects in York’s work include animals and carved canes. York’s work is held in the permanent collection of the The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art in Chicago.
