Edd Lambdin Polychrome Wooden Folk Art Sculpture of Monkey and Duck

A carved wooden polychrome folk art sculpture by American outsider artist Edd Lambdin. The piece depicts an anthropomorphic monkey with a blue-and-white body; he is shown holding the reins while riding a red, white and blue patterned duck that rests on two painted tree branch legs. The work is finished in colorful painted hues and is signed ‘Edd Lambdin’ in pen to the underside of the duck figure.

Kentucky folk artist Edd Lambdin (b. 1935) began his art career in the mid-1980s. His colorful, stylized painted sculptures are inspired by his rural Southern upbringing, with themes including monkeys, birds, snakes and religious motifs. His work has been exhibited at the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft, the Huntington Museum of Art, the Kentucky Folk Art Center and the Owensboro Museum of Art.
