A sterling silver flatware set by William B. Durgin Co.of Concord, NH (active 1853-1931). This is in the Fairfax-Engraved Y pattern, first introduced in 1910, which features a coffin handle with an engraved floral design. The forty-two piece set includes eight dinner forks, six salad forks, four fruit spoons, four soup spoons, three teaspoons, eight butter spreaders, and a serving fork. They are presented with eight dinner knives with sterling hollow handles. Also included is a set of eight teaspoons by Frederick Bucher of Baltimore, MD (active 1876-1929), a sugar spoon, a master butter knife, sugar tongs by S. Kirk & Son, and two coin silver tablespoons by Whiting Mfg. Co. Each piece is marked for silver fineness and has a personalized engraving to its handle. The set comes in a wooden flatware chest with brown felt-like interior lining. The total approximate weight, excluding dinner knives with hollow handles, is 46.485 ozt.
