A shield in the style of a Scottish targe by self-taught Ohio Folk Artist Gary Birch (b. 1946). This circular piece is made from wood and leather with brass tone metal detailing, leaf-like shapes embossed throughout the shield’s surface. There are a pair of looped handles to the verso of the piece, which is presented unsigned by the artist.

Condition

- scratches on backing; tarnishing to metal and discoloration to front and verso.
