Edgar Yaeger Oil Painting

An oil painting on board of a landscape by listed American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904-1997), dated 1983. This work depicts the lush and flourished garden of a large construction. The piece is signed and dated in paint to the lower right. The composition remains unframed.

Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.

Condition

- wear along edges of board; glue residues from previous framing slightly visible along the edges of painting; minor scratches and minor accretion scattered throughout the composition.
