A Sino-Tibetan metal figure of Green Tārā (Śyāmatārā), the “mother of liberation” and Buddha of enlightened activity. Here she is seated upon a lotus throne in the dhyanasana pose, her right hand is held in the varada mudrā, the gesture of generosity and charity, and her left hand is raised the vitarka mudrā, the gesture of discussion. She holds the stems of utpala (blue lotus flowers) which are in full bloom at her shoulders. She is dressed in the delicate ornaments, detailed clothing, and the crown of a bodhisattva. The underside bears a quatrefoil foliate mark.
