A circa 1935 oil painting on canvas titled The Mountain Stream by listed Danish artist Anders Daniel Johansen (1882-1967). This faded painting depicts four female nude figures bathing in a fresh mountain stream. Two figures stand at the shore, as two others perch on a large rock midstream. In the distance the sun sets behind a green mountain range. The work is signed in the lower right corner. A 1935 exhibition label from the Brooklyn Museum is mounted to the stretcher bar on the verso. The painting is presented unframed.
Condition
- canvas is worn to edges, ripped and torn at corners. There are several small white mold spots throughout painting. An area of media loss approx. 1.5" wide to the upper left margin reveals black paint below surface of painting. A large amount of overall accretion to the canvas has obscured some of the color in the painting. Scratches to painting surface.
