A carved wooden Nigerian Igbo mask. This ceremonial mask depicts a dark brown face supporting an ornate headdress resembling wrapped octopus tentacles reinforced with cross-bars, as a stylized bird perches with open wings on top. Connected to the lower portion are braids, as well as knitted, colorful fabric in a palette of red, green, black, yellow and blue. A handwritten tag is affixed to the verso, which is attributed as a wedding mask.

Condition

- mask has accumulated a fair amount of accretion; scuffing and wear to surface.
