Vintage Handwoven Anatolian Mafrash/Bench Cover
Item Details
A vintage eastern Anatolian tribal mafrash/bench cover. This wool textile was made originally to store bedding and as a traveling bag. It is handwoven in a palette of burgundy, ruby, cobalt, emerald, taupe, black and cream. Its top features horizontal and diagonal stripes over a field of ruby, while sides features hexagonal medallions containing fetter and hooks geometric motifs in black over ruby, flanked by partial guls in cobalt. Borders along the sides feature ashik and waisted motifs over cream. The piece is unlabeled.
