A circa 1860s tintype photographic portrait in a hinged union case. The photograph depicts the portrait of a female figure in a black dress with white collar and square buttons. The image is presented in an antique case with embossed cross patoncé and floral imagery to both sides. The case is lined in brown velvet with foliate and acorn scrollwork, and the photo is presented under a gold tone metal border embossed with floral motifs.

Condition

- discoloration and toning to photo; discoloration, toning, and residue to velvet cushion inside case; rip to velvet cushion at left side; velvet case has come unglued; debris beneath glass; toning and wear to photo liner; oxidation on metal around photo; clasp is broken; hinges are wobbly; corners on case are chipped; dust and accretion present.
