A hand-knotted Persian wool area rug. It features a diamond-shaped central pendant medallion in a palette of indigo, sky-blue, white, pale blue, yellow ochre, and scarlet. The central medallion is surrounded by a pattern of palmettes and floral elements with leaves and floral sprays in yellow ochre, pale gold, mint green, indigo, pale blue, orange, sky-blue and white on a field of bright scarlet. The corner spandrels feature large scrolled edges filled with floral and foliate patterns in yellow ochre, pale gold, mint green, indigo, pale blue, orange, sky-blue and white on fields of indigo and sky-blue. It has a primary border of lotus flowers and palmettes on an indigo ground, framed by floral and foliate guard borders in a field of white. Area rug is unmarked.
