Vintage Hand-Knotted Pakistani Baluch "Guldan" Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Baluch area rug. This wool rug, attributed to Pakistani weavers, features a guldan, or floral, design in a palette of camel, crimson, celadon, cream, brick red and powder blue. It begins with a partly open, camel-colored hexagonal lozenge, populated with floral guls, medahil pickets and four bar-like motifs grounded in crimson. The lozenge rests on a celadon field filled with repeating floral clusters. Framing the field are six borders, including a pattern of repeating rosettes and sprigs of leaves over brick red as well as running water minor borders grounded in powder blue. Selvedges are double overcast, the rug finishing at each end with ivory warp fringe made of wool and goat hair. Unlabeled.
