Peter Keil 1982 Acrylic Painting on Canvas
Item Details
An acrylic painting on canvas of an abstracted still life created in 1982 by the well listed and renowned German painter and sculptor Peter Keil (b. 1942). The work depicts a still life with naive simplistic shapes and bright primary colors. Raised areas of gesso are included throughout the painting adding texture. To the bottom right, the work signed illegibly and dated in sharpie.
Influenced by German Expressionism and graffiti elements, Keil is known for his simplified abstractions of traditional art subjects. He studied under Otto Nagel at a young age and developed relationships with other renowned artists such as Joan Miro. As Keil abandoned realism and developed his signature style, he used more vibrant colors rapidly applied with large gestural brushstrokes resembling the abstract style of Picasso.
