An antique copy of The Last Days of Pompeii by Edward Bulwer Lytton. This novel was inspired by Briullov’s painting The Last Day of Pompeii. Lytton used the characters in this two volume novel to portray the decadent lifestyle of Pompeii’s inhabitants now in the shadow of the deadly eruption of Vesuvius in the 1st Century. They books were published in 1899 by Rand, McNally & Company and feature gilded printing and decoration to the covers and spine and deckle edges.
