Ned Jacob Sanguine Crayon Drawing "Comanche"

A saguine crayon drawing on paper by listed American artist Ned Jacob (b. 1938) titled Comanche. This drawing depicts a portrait of a Native American man standing holding a tomahawk. The drawing is initialed by hand to the left of the page, is titled to the verso, and is housed in a wooden frame under glass. The verso of the frame features a hand-written note signed by Ned Jacob that reads ‘This drawing was done in the summer of 1968 in Denver, Col. It represents a Comanche Indian of the period 1870. This is a warrior with a trade blanket and tomahawk. The short stature and rather plain dress were characteristic of this group- Ned Jacob, Denver 1969.’ A second hand-written note reads ‘Dr. and Mrs. L.W. Belschner- My good friends- I am happy that you are to be the owners of this fine Jacob drawing. My own opinion of Jacob is that he is Colorado’s top young artist with a future. Cordially, Fred A. Roswstock, Denver, Thanksgiving 1969.’
Ned Jacob was born in Tennessee in 1938 and eventually made Denver, Colorado his home. He is known for his contemporary Western paintings and in particular for his portraits of Native Americans.
