A hand-knotted Persian Najafabad Esfahan area rug. This wool rug begins with a floral central medallion and attached pendants worked in indigo, red, pale blue, caramel and ivory. It features baroque style laves swirling around floral sprays creating a diamond shape. The surrounding field offers a dense floral design including palmettes and lancet leaves joined by complimentary spandrels. Framing the field are Rhodian guard borders grounded in ivory and a heavily populated main border containing boteh, lancet leaves and more large palmettes over indigo. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing with short ivory fringe at either end. Unlabeled.
