A hand-knotted Persian Mashhad wool area rug. This beautiful rug is rendered in a palette of crimson, azure, ivory, carnation, wine, mocha, powder blue, and cornsilk. The ornately designed field begins with a crenelated crimson lozenge grounded in azure, while beginning with a large pendant medallion, and carnation colored spandrels. The field also features an abundance of floral motifs including sprays, vase forms, bouquets, leafy vines, curled leaves to the edges, and palmettes to the spandrels. Framing the field is an equally elaborate main border of palmettes, flower filled vases, and more floral motifs, as well as a pair of herati patterned guard border, and a diamond patterned minor border. Finishing this rug are overcast selvedges and a short warp fringe to the ends. Unlabeled.
