A Navajo style hoop dancer Kachina doll and rattle. This piece presents a standing figure wearing fringed white deer hide with white rabbit fur sleeves and headdress, holding three intertwined hoops. The figure wears a white bird mask framed by faux feathers with a horse hair mohawk, and stands with one foot on a gourd rattle. A turquoise stone is affixed to the figure’s waistband, and there are turquoise accents throughout the piece. The figure is mounted on a round wood base. It is signed by hand to the underside, reading ‘Hoon Navajo, Made E. Woody’.
Condition
- turquoise paint marks to feathers on top of head and hands; foxing and dark residue on front flap of hide and on white fur arms; wear to paint on hands; wear to front face of base; debris on top of base; scuffs to underside of base.
