An oil painting on canvas titled On the Lledr, North Wales by listed Yorkshire-born artist William Mellor (1851-1931). This earth-toned piece depicts Wale’s Afon Lledr river, rows of hazy tree-covered hills rising up behind the the shallow water. A line of rapids is just visible at a bend in the river and a small herd of cows are clustered at the water’s edge. The painting is signed in red paint toward its lower right and is mounted in a molded gold tone frame with a wire for hanging. There is a label to the verso noting the title, along with a second asserting the work is called ‘Highlands Lleder, North Wales.’
Condition
- fair; edge wear to frame; wear to corner ornamentation; UV light reveals inpainting and touch-ups.
