Paul Chidlaw Collection of Abstract Still Life Paintings on Paper

Item Details

A collection of four abstract still life paintings on paper by well-listed American Abstract Expressionist Paul Chidlaw (Cincinnati, 1900 – 1989). These four still lifes are composted of traditional items such as vessels and foliage rendered in the artist’s characteristic loose brushwork, colorful palette, layered patterns, and simplified forms. These paintings are unsigned but do carry a stamp from the artist’s estate on the verso of each piece. These paintings are unframed and await your choice of presentation.

Chidlaw was born in Cleves, Ohio and studied at both the Cincinnati Art Academy and L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Fontainebleau, France. He returned to Cincinnati where he then taught at the Art Academy mentoring many students. He was considered a pioneer of the Abstract movement, at the time, and he remains one of Cincinnati’s best-loved native artists. His artwork is displayed at the Cincinnati Art Museum and Xavier University.
