Handwoven Central American Textiles on Backstrap Looms

Item Details

A selection of three Central American handwoven textiles still on primitive looms. The pieces were intentionally left incomplete to illustrate the method used to weave intricate decorative textiles. One length of cloth has a cinnamon color background with bands of geometric motifs in various colors. The second piece has an ocean blue background and features different geometric elements separated by narrow stripes. The smallest loom holds a piece of vivid orange cloth with triangular and geometric motifs worked between woven stripes. The structure of the looms allows the pieces to be displayed on a vertical surface as well as on a horizontal one.
