"Seven Lucky Gods" Hand-Painted Japanese Hanging Scroll Signed Keiyama

Item Details

A hand-painted Japanese hanging scroll titled Seven Lucky Gods (七福神, Shichifukujin). This painting features a gathering all of eclectic group of deities. Ebisu is present in the upper right holding a red fan, Fukurokuju with the large forehead and staff sits to the left. Bishamonten wears armor, Daikokuten holds a large hammer and sits upon a rice bale, Benzaiten (the only woman) plays a biwa, Jurōjin has a red had and a long white beard, and Hotei holds a fan and sits upon a large yellow sack in the lower right. The work is titled in the upper left alongside a signature and seal reading ‘Keiyama’. Mounted as a hanging scroll.

- toning to fabric and image; foxing to scroll; creases and fraying to scroll and composition; water stains to composition and scroll; fading to paint.
