A woodblock print on laid paper titled Agatsuma Gorge (吾妻峡) after Kawase Hasui (川瀬 巴水, 1883 – 1957). The work depicts a rushing river crashing along the rocks framed by early fall red, orange, and green foliage. The Japanese title and date (Showa 22 = 1947) are printed in the left margin. The artist’s ‘Hasui’ signature and seal are present in the lower right corner. A Watanabe publisher seal is printed in red in the lower right margin, dating the print to the late 20th century. The print is presented floating in an off-white mat under glass in a wooden frame.
Condition
- some wear to the edges of the frame; to the verso, some wear to the protective backing.
