An 1890 antique ink and watercolor painting by British artist Walter E. Spindler (1878–1940). This painting depicts a costume design for French actress Sarah Bernhardt (1844–1923) in the role of Théodora in the play Théodora. The painting depicts Berhnhardt holding a large flower and wearing a long gold tone gown and headdress with intricate details and depictions of angels around the skirt. The painting features hand-written text in ink along the bottom margin and is signed and dated by hand to the lower left corner. The painting is housed in a gold tone wooden frame with intricate floral detail under glass.
