Handwoven and Embroidered Moroccan Wool Accent Rug

A handwoven and embroidered Moroccan wool textile. The rectangular accent rug or blanket has been woven and intricately embroidered in shades of terracotta, sand, ivory, and maize. The center of the rug is divided into two panels or blocks featuring stepped cruciform elements and linked lattice work set in a framework of multiple bands embroidered with different patterns. Crenellated guard borders worked in terracotta along the selvedges flank wider bands of diamond devices in maize against a backdrop of white stitching. There is long terracotta red wool fringe at one end and the selvedges are overcast. The reverse of this piece is a surprising dark blue. The loose threads are part of the hand-embroidery process.
