Seven Paul Chidlaw Abstract Expressionist Mixed Media Drawings

Item Details

Other

A collection of seven original mixed media drawings on paper by well-listed American Abstract Expressionist Paul Chidlaw (Cincinnati, 1900 – 1989). These pieces are rendered in different combinations of ink, watercolor and pastel and feature bold strokes, strong lines and energetic compositions. Four of the pieces are signed by the artist, and one is marked to the verso with the artist’s name and the date 1979. The remaining two drawings are unsigned. The works are presented without framing, awaiting your choice of presentation.

Chidlaw was born in Cleves, Ohio and studied at both the Cincinnati Art Academy and L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Fontainebleau, France. He returned to Cincinnati where he then taught at the Art Academy mentoring many students. He was considered a pioneer of the Abstract movement, at the time, and he remains one of Cincinnati’s best-loved native artists. His artwork is displayed at the Cincinnati Art Museum and Xavier University.
