This study of a genre piece depicts a late-19th century court reception, where two women seated on the right in a lavish parlor receive visitors. A man in a blue coat is bent to kiss their hands, and a line of people wait on the right for their turn. The work is signed ‘Lawson’ to the lower right and presented as an unframed, stretched canvas.
