Hand-Knotted Persian Bijar Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Persian Bijar area rug. This wool rug is rendered in a markedly abrashed palette of scarlet, midnight blue and cobalt with prominent ivory highlights. It begins with a stepped hexagonal medallion grounded in midnight blue and filled with simplified geometric herati palmettes, flowers and foliate motifs. The medallion rests on a hexagonal scarlet lozenge, similarly populated with geometric motifs arranged in an abstracted herati pattern, which continues in the spandrels. Corners are grounded in deep midnight blue. Framing the field are compound borders, including floral meander patterns over cobalt and scarlet/crimson. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with ivory wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
