Large Antique Hand-Knotted Persian Sarouk Area Rug

A large antique Persian Sarouk area rug. This wool rug is hand-knotted in a palette of ruby, midnight blue, sapphire and apricot. It features a densely patterned vase design incorporating sprays of flowers in a variety of forms, palmettes, leaves and vines as well as four vases, over an abrashed, ruby-colored field. The field is framed by six borders, including a stylized herati main border featuring palmettes and chains of flowers over midnight blue. Four minor borders feature floral patterns. The outer guard border is ruby. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with ivory wool warp fringe. Blue weft threads are visible on the underside. The rug is unlabeled.
