Antique George III Mahogany Knife Box with Inlay, Circa Late 18th Century
Item Details
An antique George III mahogany knife box with inlay, circa late 18th century. The veneered case features a slanted lid with a serpentine front edge above a conforming body with an oak interior. The underside of the lid is inlaid with and an inlaid six-pointed star and satinwood and ebonized stringing which matches the trim to the exterior of the piece. Mounted to the façade is silver tone metal beaded escutcheon with silver tone metal pull to the top.
Condition
- small piece of missing veneer to the front; some oxidation to the metal; some cracks in the veneer noted; hinges missing a few original nails; large chip noted to the bottom edge of the lid; some scratches and wear.
