A Tibetan metal and enamel statuette of Blue Tārā (Ekajaṭī, Ekajaṭā, or Māhacīnatārā), known as the ‘mother of the mothers of all Buddhas’. Here Ekajati is seated upon a lotus pedestal in the lalitāsana pose with her right leg pendant and supported by a lotus. Her right hand is held in the varada mudrā, the gesture of generosity and charity, and her left hand is raised the vitarka mudrā, the gesture of discussion. She holds the stems of utpala (blue lotus flowers) which are in full bloom at her shoulders. She is dressed in the delicate ornaments, clothing, and crown of a bodhisattva. The entire statue is decorated in gold tone and vibrant enamels highlighting the buddha’s blue skin. The underside is marked with a floral symbol.
